Having affiliated to British Cycling earlier this year, Somersham officials have been working hard behind the scenes and are proud to announce that Somersham Stars Cycle Speedway Club are now registered as a British Cycling Go-Ride Club and join an elite group of Cycling clubs numbering over 300.
The Go-Ride programme integrates structured coaching activities in traffic-free facilities for young people and club development into a single, recognisable programme. It also provides a template of best practice for clubs in all areas of regular activity and Clubs must meet certain standards before they can join and British Cycling offer help to continually improve and achieve best practice along the way.
Put simply, Go-Ride Clubs have something to offer all young people; whether it is riding or volunteering, there are opportunities to suit all.
With Level 2 British Cycling qualified Coaches, First Aiders, Welfare Officers and Volunteer Co-ordinators the Stars aim to forge close links with local schools to encourage children to make the transition from school to club, as well as to provide the local community and surrounding areas with an opportunity for healthy exercise and also to establish a growing membership base to participate in a sport which has a fine tradition and history in Suffolk, all of course in a safe and traffic free environment.
We look forward to welcoming new Riders and volunteers to the club as the hard work and training begins in the next few weeks.
